The Scillies and the RNLI

Early in the 20th century, more than one of the Scilly Islands was home to a lifeboat. St. Agnes used to have one; here's the lifeboat house and slipway. In recent decades, only St. Mary's has crewed such a vessel. Despite the distance, the Scilly lifeboat went out on the night the Solomon Browne was lost out of Penlee. It joined the effort to locate survivors in the water, after the Union Star was flipped and the lifeboat had vanished.
