As we drove the beach loop, we encountered clusters of homes on our right, which was the side across from the beach. We also encountered an art colony. The top pic is of a gallery in that colony. Much of the rest of that area looked like it had begun as military or civic structures.
On the left, beach side, there was just beach--with the exception of one phone box, depicted below.
There were a number of lovely little cottages, and nearly no McMansions. What few McMansions there were, were atop hills, with lifts on tracks up from the street. I can't imagine getting stuck in one of those lifts.
