Lunches with little sparkles

We went first to Dirty Dick's, dreaming of she-crab soup. That soup has changed, but it's still delicious. The entrees were less winning. The Dirty Dick's at the Hatteras docks has closed, and the ones in Avon and Nags Head have both moved. Lots of changes within that organization.

We tried yesterday to go to Stryper's, with its fantastic chicken chili, up in Manteo. And it was gone! Knowing that it was affiliated with Chilli Peppers in Kill Devil Hills, we phoned that establishment. Yup, closed, gone for good. We moseyed on up to Chilli Peppers and were told: New chef. Also, the name of the place is altered just enough so that it doesn't match our T-shirts any more. The sirloin chili still had nice, chewy cubes of beef in it, but it was oversalted.

Today we're going to hit Cafe 12, home of the Hatteras Flat (like an unrolled burrito, with more cheese). Like Dick's, Cafe 12 has moved (expanded) -- we have to hope that that's the only change!
