Single roses can be so lovely in bud form as well as in bloom. Of course, bud is the form that's familiar from bouquets. By contrast, there seems something florid, nearly excessive, about the open blooms. Their scent is heady and sweet, and they reveal their centers only briefly before they disintegrate.
