King

I snapped this monarch today, during our 5 minutes of sunshine between storms. There is something so elegant about a butterfly.

Beaches

Here are the beaches where I collect my glass. Well, here are some of them; one of them, twice.

Look at that interesting keel on the beach. There must have been a boat attached at one time.

postscript: Wow, was that picture ever pink. I assumed that it was a temporary glitch when I posted it, but it proved to have staying power. Let's hope it looks normal now that it has been replaced.

Schooner Races

Some photos from this weekend's schooner races... I don't even know which boats won!

Beach Finds

Three trips to the beach (for sailing, not swimming, nor sunning), and I just can't help myself. The glass calls to me. In the pic at top, the glass has just been rinsed and is still wet.

The collection of dark pieces are among my favorites, each for a different reason, all found today.

Buggie 2

Saw this unidentified visitor in a parking lot. The pink effects on the car were not present to my naked eye; some kind of weird photo illusion.

Our Very Hotel

From CNN.com:
Reinier Eulink, general manager of the Holiday Inn in Christchurch, said there's damage around the hotel corridors and "big cracks in the walls."

"It was a big big long jolt, and the building moved a lot," he said. The 13-floor building, with about 150 rooms, was about 40 percent occupied, and he estimated that 80 or more people were staying at the hotel at the time.

Power was knocked out, but emergency power came on. People were milling around in the hotel lobby, trying to get warm during the chilly Southern Hemisphere winter.

"My room is totally upside down," Eulink said.

Vacationlands

We woke this morning to TV stories reporting damage (see http://islandfreepress.org/2010Archives/09.02.2010-FriscoPier/index.html) to the Frisco Pier and other familiar haunts on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

This afternoon I got online and saw collapsed buildings and destroyed cars in Christchurch, NZ, where an earthquake struck some four hours ago (see http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/4094986/Massive-7-4-quake-hits-South-Island). As reminders, from this blog: http://seagardensandglass.blogspot.com/2010/04/christchurch.html

My heart breaks! So many lovely spots that may be forever altered.
