October Roses

I know it's only September 30, but I don't expect these will vanish overnight. In fact, it looks like we'll have roses for a few more weeks.

First of Fall

We have some blooms lingering in our yard as fall descends. We had thought that the monarda and anemone, in particular, were long-since finished for the year.

Cove

Another Com-Pac Yacht (16 feet) is moored in Smith Cove. Actually, there are two in the cove, but one is tied up at a dock, tucked in behind a B&B -- not so easy to photograph. We were putt-putting around the inner harbor in our own Com-Pac 16 when we snapped this.

Exhaustion

I am just pooped. Took a new job (did I say that already?) and am working with admin to get a program open in a matter of weeks. It's supposed to be a therapeutic program; when I asked the director how she saw it as therapeutic, she responded, "Oh, I don't want it to be therapeutic, kids get enough therapy by that point in the day." Um, so no surprise, then, that DMH said it was failing, right? She's a clinician, so when I tell her tomorrow that my plan for the first week includes a group session run by =her=, I hope that she's open to the idea.

Phantogram

Vic and I are going to see Phantogram tonight at the Paradise.

In that last one I can't tell if she's talking about substance abuse, schizophrenia, or both. But I can tell we're going to enjoy ourselves this evening. So glad you're still around, alternative!

Home in Green

Green eyes has my kitty, and our new chairs are green. So is our rug (green), and our curtains as well. Vic's favorite dinner is green, and doesn't it look yummy, even before it becomes sauce?

As I Was Saying

Can you guess which of the two pieces of green glass is a "plant"? A couple of women have tumbled broken household glass and added it the harbor. Which stinks.

I'm almost done with my sorting. Everything still has to go into clear glass bottles, however.

(BTW, the plant is the one on the left.)

Switch

I hereby propose to the owners of these homes that they switch homes with me. Even for two weeks. They'd have more space, and a lovely backyard.

At Work

Some people were at work on Saturday.

Saturday

I took harbor pictures from the water on Saturday, when Victor and I were out on Kiwi.

Sorting

I'm sorting my glass yet again, getting rid of pieces that are insufficiently frosted. I'm also getting rid of pieces that were planted on the beaches/in the water -- more on that later.

I got a call tonight about the Haverhill job. They want me to come aboard, at least for Oct to Dec. They wondered, however, why I would work for them, when I worked for them before, and at my exit wrote a "scathing" (their word) letter about the experience.

Shades of a family member here. I remember writing that I hoped that my daughter would be placed at a facility administered by the company. I also remember writing that my sometime supervisor was not consistently appropriate, in different and perhaps aggravated words. Well, so be it. I had a feeling that the letter was potentially inflammatory, and I wouldn't write another one like it. However -- sorting through my memories, at least -- it was the truth.

Birthday

So I have this friend whose birthday is the first week of November. She was sharing how she hasn't been on one single vacation since she's been a grown-up (and she's 40 or 41). So I decided, she and I are going away for her birthday.

I made flight and hotel reservations, and I booked a car. We're looking forward to it. And now we're ESPECIALLY looking forward to it, b/c Jon Stewart & Steven Colbert will be there with us.

Imagine my surprise to watch The Daily Show on Thursday and have Jon say that a) he's holding a rally, and b) his rally will be in D.C. on 10/30. We arrive at 10am on 10/30. I'm PSYCHED.

So

My daughter has been in the hospital three times over the summer, and my mother twice. Each of them has spent at least a month in physical rehab over the same time period.

There are days when I feel like toast. And I'm not even working!

Every weekend for the last six or seven weeks we've been out sailing, though. Bless sailing.

Explore Detroit

http://www.palladiumboots.com/exploration/detroit

For my birthday present (it's today), you must give me 33 minutes. That's how long it will take you to view the videos at the site above. Wonderful work, starring Johnny Knoxville, of all people. Having watched, I feel invigorated.

Y'all know I'm originally from Michigan, right? Flint, Michigan.

Describe Yourself: Value Oriented

Primary use: Personal

I was staying in a hotel that charged more for supplying a cable than this cable cost. (Internet was free but, as a home/school/business wi-fi user, I don't carry cables with me.) I added it to my briefcase in case I run up against this problem again.

Glories and Roses

Here are still more current blooms, I didn't leave them out so much as group them together.

Working Boats

Hope the fisherfolk/lobstermen didn't mind me snapping these pics as we sailed past. I tend to hate feeling like background for tourists' photographs, or even like foreground for same. I wanted to yell, "It's OK, I live here!" Doubt that would have helped.

Early September

And here is my yard, or the blooms and produce in my yard at the moment. I also have lots of yellow and didn't photograph anything yellow. Why? Who knows. I feel like everything LOOKS so yellow that I have to document the other shades.

For the record, the yellow is perennial sunflower, black-eyed susan, and something of which I don't know the name that creates sprays of ecru, next to my blue bush (pics of that 2 below).

Sail

We've had two glorious sailing adventures, last weekend and this weekend, with enough wind that we heeled and felt like we were really cruising. I took several pictures from the boat.

Caly- or Cary- Something

I have two, love them, but don't remember the name.

Logs

I keep seeing these sectioned logs and finally took a picture. They've been in place for more than a year, developing those interiors. I love the curlicues.

Race

We went sailing over the weekend and witnessed this sailboat race among Rhodes 19s. The last time we went sailing, we saw a very similar race -- Rhodes 19s, same colors. Wonder if they're using any weekend with a breeze. Very cool.
